Organism's niche
The African Bush viper has a very important niche in its habitat. It controls the population of its prey (small rodents, birds, insects etc). Controlling the population can affect the resources and health of the ecosystem. It controls it because it basically eats any small mammal (makes up most of the habitat) and its prey consumes most of the resources of the ecosystem. This can also cause more competition (if the african bush viper does decides to make any sudden changes) for the other predators of the snakes prey. Competition can lead to emmirgration and/or extinction of a species.
